Oubaai Golf Course
Ernie Els first championship design in South Africa Golf Courses, Oubaai Golf Course, located at the Hyatt Regency Oubaii Golf Resort & Spa in Herold’s, utilizes elements of links design with grasses flanking the immaculate fairways and greens. The course provides spectacular views of the Outenique mountains, Gwaing River Valley and the Indian Ocean. The signature hole is the par 3 17th as, like the 7th hole at Pebble Beach, with a downhill elevation and the costal breezes it’s short but very deceptive with a green that is surrounded by four bunkers.
The Links at Fancourt
Created from a previously flat piece of land, over 700 000 cubic meters of earth was moved in transforming The Links at Fancourt into a typical links style course. The Gary Player designed course has undulating, windswept terrain and a dune-style landscape. The Links presents a stern test of your game in all weather conditions. The par 3 2nd hole has a bunker in the middle of its enormous green. Limited tee times are available to guests staying at the Fancourt Resort. Host course of the 2003 Presidents Cup, 2005 Women’s World Cup and 2006 South African Open. Ranked #67 on Golf Digest’s list of 100 Greatest Courses outside the US it is a one of the jewels of South African Golf Courses.
Fancourt Montagu Course
Designed by Gary Player and remodeled in 2004 by David McKlay-Kidd (Bandon Dunes), the Fancourt Montague Course, named after the MontaguPass, is considered to be one of the South African golf courses. The Montagu is a glorious parkland layout with a setting that takes in mountains, water and interesting wildlife covering large tracts of varying terrain on rolling land. Its beauty is enhanced by mature trees, flower beds, shrubs and water hazards.
Fancourt Outeniqua Course
Also designed by Gary Player, the majestic Fancourt Outeniqua 18-hole course is similar to its sibling the Montagu in terms of character, challenging design and conditioning. Beautifully maintained, the Outiniqua Course is a parkland design of the highest quality. Although the course moves through a fair amount of housing, it is well set back and carefully hidden with the use of flower beds, trees and well placed water hazards.
Simola Golf Course
Located at the Simola Golf & Country Estate, this is the first Jack Nicklaus designed course on the Garden Route. The Simola Golf Course offers challenging and rewarding golf amidst exceptional views over the Knysna Lagoon and KnysnaRiver. Fairways flow with the natural undulating contours of the terrain, and the unusual configuration of five par 5’s and five par 3’s adds a new dimension to the game.
Pezula Golf Club
The Pezula Championship Golf Course, located above the Indian Ocean and the Knysna lagoon, is a Scottish links-style course with a look similar to that of Gleneagles. The course features cool-season grasses and five different tee placements to satisfy, challenge and reward all levels of golfers. Flanked by indigenous forest, flora and beautiful vistas, the varied coastal terrain offers a complete golfers’ menu requiring a full range of shots.
George Golf Club
Situated between Fancourt and the town of George, this mature and beautifully manicured George Golf Club parkland par 72 18 hole layout is a traditional members club set in the heart of the Garden Route.
